Happy 2023 Winter Solstice! To celebrate, we teamed up with knitwear designer Tif Neilan to create this gorgeous new pattern: Winterly.

Tif used two colors of our sister yarn company's Bread & Butter Everyday. One dyed by the mill and one dyed by us in our Oakland-based natural dyeing studio. Everyday is made of U.S. Merino wool and milled in the U.S. It is soft and springy, making a cozy, comfy cowl!

Winterly is a bandana-cowl worked from the bottom up, in-the-round. Part 1 includes decreases at both sides of the center slip stitch, to create the bandana shaping.This cowl is designed to be worked in two colorways of Bread & Butter Everyday yarn, a worsted weight yarn.

The color variation is texture is achieved through a variety of slip stitch patterns – no stranded colorwork is involved. Information on working (optional) jog-less stripes is provided to achieve a smoother color transition when alternating between the different color rounds. Lastly, two-color Fisherman’s Rib is worked in the final section for the top edging.

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS
This cowl is written for two sizes: 1 (2) 22.75 (26)” / 57 (65) cm circumference 16.25” / 40.5 cm length. (Sample pictured reflects size 1.)

Needle A - US 10 / 6 mm (or size needed to achieve Slip Stitch gauge) 16” & 24” / 40 & 60 cm circular needles

Needle B - US 7 / 4.5 mm or three sizes smaller than Needle A, 16 (24)” / 40 (60) cm circular needles
